Program Description
The BA in Cinematic Arts and New Media teaches students a range of essential skills and technical knowledge for filmmaking, graphic design, digital arts, digital music production and sound design. The curriculum emphasizes developing the creativity of the student, and providing them with mentorship, up-to-date knowledge of equipment and software, and the support of a creative community necessary to achieve outstanding projects.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successfully completing the BA in Cinematic Arts and New Media, students will have acquired skills in:
- Storytelling - Students will be able create stories that engage people on a deep level.
- Artistry - Students will be able to imagine and realize a creative vision through design, visual aesthetics, sound, and still and moving images.
- Technique & Craft - Students will be able to master techniques related to camera, software, and troubleshooting in development, preproduction, production, and post-production.
- Share - Students will be able to harness the potential of the internet and social media to connect with audiences and share their message.
- Creative Process - Students will be able to explain their artistic work and the process of creating it.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a BA in Cinematic Arts and New Media, students must successfully complete 128 credits of study, including the Exploring Consciousness course required for all undergraduate students, 8 credits of Writing for Career and Community, one Forest Academy course in each semester in which the student is enrolled for 12 weeks or more, and 48 credits of coursework required for the CANM major.
All students are required to post and maintain a record of their work completed in each CANM course to be submitted as their Final Portfolio to aid assessment prior to graduation.
Students also work on a larger-scope capstone project from proposal to completion, then present their project by the end of their senior year.
