Documentary films have their basis in the real world. They are made for a variety of purposes, but fundamentally, they explore the entire range of human experience. We examine the role of documentary filmmaking and all the various forms of documentary, a fascinating journey that will take us all over the globe and throughout history, dealing with a wide range of issues past and present. Students also examine how to make a documentary. The first requirement of any documentary is knowing what the story is and what kind of story makes a good documentary. Once you’ve chosen a story, you want to manifest it. Students learn what is required to make the all-important pitch. They then choose some stories and make short documentaries about them.
May be repeated for credit.
