CANM 316 - Experimental Filmmaking Expanding the Boundaries of Possibilities Credits: 4 Prerequisites: CANM 282 or CANM 284 or CANM 288 or faculty consent Delivery mode: On-Campus and Online Fees: Lab fee: $20 if enrolled on-campus In this course, students will be invited to push the boundaries of their filmmaking practice. Falling outside the traditional classification that divides narrative/documentary or fiction/non-fiction, experimental filmmaking challenges us to expand our conception of the medium. This course will encourage students to draw on their established artistic and filmmaking knowledge and interests-for example: a passion for working with actors; a habit of documenting surroundings; etc.-but to then bend their process in novel, risky ways. Screenings will include a wide variety of films, demonstrating the broad, exciting scope of possibilities of “experimental filmmaking.”
