Program Description

The BAAS Specialization in Pre-Professional Art Therapy gives students the necessary coursework in studio art and psychology to deepen their own creativity and connection to art while preparing for advanced study leading to a future career in Art Therapy. Course requirements include a capstone Portfolio Development course that helps students build the portfolio and supplemental materials they will need to apply to top graduate programs in art therapy, while giving them exposure to professionals in the field through guest lectures and discussions. Students can expect to gain grounding in a wide range of artistic media and approaches, including drawing, painting, and sculpture, and foundational coursework in psychology and human development. Our unique approach to integrating an understanding of consciousness at every stage and unifying knowledge across disciplines ensures that students use what they learn to nourish their own individual self-development.

Program Learning Objectives

Upon successfully completing the BAAS Specialization in Pre-Professional Art Therapy, students will be able to:

  1. Create works of art that demonstrate a foundational understanding of form and process.
  2. Demonstrate competency in a variety of artistic media, including drawing, painting, and sculpture.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of foundational concepts and approaches to psychology and human development.
  4. Write and speak effectively and authentically about art and the creative process.
  5. Effectively document and present artworks in a digital portfolio.
  6. Engage themes of consciousness to illuminate and articulate deeper connections between art and psychology.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with a BAAS Specialization in Pre-Professional Art Therapy, students must successfully complete 32 credits in art and psychology.
