An introductory survey of the technical foundations of narrative filmmaking. Students develop working knowledge of professional camera systems, cinematic lighting, and field audio recording as applied to film and video production. Topics include camera mechanics and operation, exposure and sensor fundamentals, lens selection, lighting instruments and their properties, lighting types, lighting design and technique, and the principles of location sound recording. Emphasis is placed on hands-on equipment proficiency and the development of technical judgment in a production context.
