AG 216 - Indigenous Relationships to Land and Agriculture

Diverse Knowledge Ways
Credits: 2
Delivery mode: Online
Indigenous relationships to land are often fundamentally different than those of the dominant Western Eurocentric paradigms. This course will highlight the unique characteristics of Indigenous agricultural practices and their place-based technical wisdom as well as how they reflect the spiritual and relational orientations of various peoples. In particular, we will examine agricultural methods currently used-or historically practiced-by Indigenous peoples of select communities around the world, including cosmovisions, ceremonies, seed selection, and related knowledge systems. This course will explore how to engage with Indigenous knowledge systems in ways that avoid appropriation and respect their cultural and intellectual sovereignty.
