MATH 281 - Calculus 1 Quantifying the Unmanifest Impulse of Change Credits: 4 Prerequisites: MATH 162 Delivery mode: On-Campus Calculus, one of the most useful areas of mathematics, is the study of continuous change. It provides the language and concepts used by modern science to quantify the laws of nature governing continuous change and the numerical techniques through which this knowledge is applied to enrich life. The course begins the study of calculus with the fundamental principles of differentiation of a function of a single variable and how differentiation is applied in real-world situations. Topics include limits, continuity, definition of the derivative, formulas for differentiating the elementary functions and combinations of functions, and applications of derivatives to optimization, related rates, and limits.
