This course fulfillsthe BAAS Critical and Creative Thinking Seminar (CCTS) requirement.
Elementary mathematics is a critical tool in the modern world for analyzing and interpreting numbers and graphs arising in your life, including managing personal financial issues such as budgeting, taxation, loans, investment returns, and the effects of inflation, and also in assessing the validity of numbers and graphs found in the media, so that you can draw your own conclusions. Topics include estimation, units and unit conversion, ratios and percentages, basic geometry, simple descriptive statistics, constructing and interpreting graphs, and linear and exponential growth. Students also develop the ability to calculate and present meaningful information using spreadsheets.
